The Jordanian new light vehicle market loses over 10,000 units (28%) year-on-year over the first seven months of 2016 to just 25.427 sales. This decline has one culprit: the imploding of the Hyundai-Kia tandem, losing a total 10.183 units year-over-year. From 37.4% share and a comfortable leadership a year ago, Hyundai drips 54% to 6.110 sales and 24% share this year while sister brand Kia is down 40% from 20.5% to 17.3% share. Mitsubishi is also hit at -59%, going from 11.3% share to 6.5% but remaining at #4. The big beneficiary of this momentous shift is Toyota, up 14% to see its Jordanian market share take off from 18.5% to 29.6%. Nissan (-16%) stays at #5 but Isuzu leaps 15 spots to #6, ahead of Lexus (+34%), Suzuki (+107%), Mazda (+28%) and Ford (+19%). Notice also Chevrolet (+33%), Honda (+36%), Citroen (+179%) and Jeep (+1856%) in great shape.

Model-wise, the Toyota Land Cruiser cements its newfound leadership in Jordan through sales up a stunning 80% on the same period last year to 2.918 for a 11.5% market share. It is followed by its pickup counterpart, up an even more impressive 196% to 2.555 units and a round 10% share. The Hyundai Elantra plunges 28% to 7.7% share above the Kia Frontier (+9%), while the Hyundai Tucson (-55%), Accent (-76%) and Mitsubishi Lancer EX (-72%) all implode. Outside the Top 10, notice the Nissan Patrol shooting up 7 spots to #11, the Isuzu D-Max back among Jordan’s best-sellers at #12 while the big novelty for 2016 is the Hyundai Creta landing directly at a very robust 15th place with 2% of the market. The Suzuki Alto (#32), Ford Mondeo (#40) and BMW X5 (#47) also post spectacular gains.
