Venezuela May 2016: Ford last man standing

The Ford Explorer accounts for 35% of the (few) new vehicles sold in Venezuela in May.

Venezuela shows no sign of unlocking from its near-standstill, worse: it seems to slowly die out month after month. May sales are down 84% year-on-year to add up to a dismal 253 units, 240 or 94.9% of which are branded Ford. Sadly, it looks like once the American manufacturer finally decides to pull out, the Venezuelan new car market may actually stop and amount to zero monthly sales, which would be a first in the 6-year existence of BSCB: never has any market purely and simply stopped purchasing new cars yet. Ford de Venezuela is selling new cars in the country in dollars since May 2015 and has posted a warning on their local website not to purchase vehicles sold as new outside of their approved dealers, mentioning the new (and illegal) practice by Ford workers at the local assembly plant to sell vehicles straight from the factory to private buyers. Ford also does not condone the sale of any imported model as these do not have a warranty in Venezuela…
