Saudi Arabia January-April 2016: Hyundai Accent takes the lead

New light vehicle sales in Saudi Arabia are down a worrying 21% year-on-year over the first four months of 2016 to 225.646 units. Toyota falls 30% and drops almost 4 percentage points of market share but remains ultra-dominant at 30.5% of the market and 68.810 sales, yet Hyundai is up to 22.7% share thanks to deliveries down just 7% to 51.126. Nissan (-20%), Kia (-13%), Isuzu (-27%) and Ford (-18%) follow. Chevrolet is up 0.4% and gains one percentage point of share to 4.9% in 7h place. Mazda (+35%), Renault (+16%), Suzuki (+55%), Land Rover (+16%) and Infiniti (+11%) impress.

The Saudi models ranking undergoes a complete reshuffle: leader in 2015, the Toyota Hilux is down 39% to #4 as it transitions to the new generation. Instead, the Hyundai Accent gains two spots and takes the overall lead despite dropping 19% to 14.806 units. The Toyota Corolla (-27%) is also up two ranks to #2 and the Hyundai Elantra (-25%) is down one to #3. Note the percentage change are year-on-year while the position changes are compared to the Full Year 2015 ranking. The Hyundai Sonata is up a fantastic 37% to leap up to #6, the Mazda6 is up 231% to #11, the Kia Optima up 25% to #15 and the Ford Taurus up 23% to #19. Among new launches, the Hyundai Creta ranks #40, the Chevrolet Spark #45 and the Ford Figo #52.
