The Romanian new car market is up 7% year-on-year in May to 6.345 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total up 16% to 29.990. Homegrown market leader surprisingly freefalls though at -18% but remains leader by far at 1.502 units and 23.7% share. Skoda (11.3%) and Volkswagen (9.1%) follow like in the year-to-date ranking, with Ford leaping to #4 thanks to sales up a whopping 45% to 525. Opel (+41%), Mercedes (+31%), BMW (+52%), Peugeot (+74%), Audi (+102%), Kia (+34%), Suzuki (+105%) and Volvo (+171%) all post spectacular gains whereas Fiat (-64%) and Honda (-45%) crumble. No trace of Dacia’s weakness in the models ranking, with the Logan (12.3%) and Duster (6.3%) dominating as usual, ahead of the Skoda Octavia and Rapid. Notice also the strong performances of the Opel Astra (#9), Mercedes GLE (#15) and Suzuki Vitara (#17).
