A year ago the imminent implementation of a new Goods & Service Tax had resulted in a surge in forward purchases, and the logical – yet dramatic – effect this year is a 28% drop to just 48.800 units, pulling the year-to-date total down 22% to 131.267 registrations. Perodua (-22%) and Honda (-23%) drop slightly less than the market to top the brands ranking while Proton crumbles down 47% to just 11.3% market share vs. 14.6% year-to-date. Nissan (-13%) and Mazda (-6%) limit their fall whereas Mitsubishi (+1%), Mercedes (+1%) and Volkswagen (+6%) but none more than BMW (+65%) actually improve year-on-year.
In the models ranking – exclusive to BSCB – the Perodua Axia remains master in command with 16.1% share above the Perodua Alza at 10.5% and now #2 year-to-date and the Perodua Myvi at 9.5%. Honda places both the HR-V and the City inside the Top 6.
