2016 is shaping up to be a year to forget for the Colombian new car market: after -21% in January and -11% in February, new car sales plunge back down 20% in March to just 19.762 units, pulling the year-to-date total down 17% to 56.819. Chevrolet holds onto its traditional #1 spot yet drops even faster than the market this month at -26% to 22% share. As a result, Renault edges even closer to overtaking the American manufacturer: thanks to stable sales due to a renewed lineup, the French carmaker leaps to 20.8% share in March and adds up to 20.5% so far in 2016 (+2%) vs. 24% for Chevrolet (-16%). Mazda is the other brand to shine with sales up an outstanding 53% to 1.409 and 7.1% share in 5th place overall. Nissan (-11%) and Volkswagen (-6%) are the only other carmakers to improve their share year-on-year inside the Top 10. Further down, Hino (+47%), Subaru (+38%) and Chinese manufacturer BAIC (+14%) are the only gainers in the Top 30.
