After the overall UK Top 10 and thanks to SMMT we can now share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation for October. For once new car sales in England, up 0.7% and representing 86.7% of the UK total, do not reflect the overall UK evolution at -1%. The culprits for the first year-on-year UK decline in 43 months are Wales (-3%), Northern Ireland (-4%) and most of all Scotland, down a harsh 17% year-on-year. In fact, without Scotland the UK market would have posted a 44th consecutive year-on-year gain at +0.4%… This month the Ford Fiesta only manages to top two nations: England and Wales, with Northern Ireland going to the VW Golf and Scotland going to the Vauxhall Corsa. The VW Golf also surprises by ranking #2 in England vs. #3 in the UK overall and #4 in Scotland vs. #6 year-to-date, all this despite the brand’s recent woes.
…while the Ford Ecosport ranks 9th. Both models enjoy their first Top 10 ranking.
The Ford Focus displays incredible stability: it ranks third in each and every nation, a result that earns it a… fourth place overall in the UK! The Vauxhall Insignia returns inside the Top 10 with a shiny 4th place in Northern Ireland and 8th spot in Scotland, while the Vauxhall Mokka is #4 in Wales and #6 in Northern Ireland. The Hyundai Tucson repeats its splendid 8th position in Scotland, while two newcomers break into the Top 10 for the first time: the Vauxhall Viva (#7) and the Ford Ecosport (#9), both in Wales.
