With the general “re-elections” on November 1 bringing a bit of respite to the Turkish Lira devaluation, October new light vehicle sales in Turkey slow down their fall at -3% to 64.255 units. The year-to-date total is still on record pace though at +35% on 2014 to an all-time high 727.243 deliveries after 10 months. Below Volkswagen at 14.8% share, Renault posts a particularly strong month at 13.8%, helped by very high levels of fleet sales of the Symbol (#1 model overall) and Fluence (#4). Ford for its part is up 15% in third position and manages to place two light commercials on the podium: the Transit/Tourneo et Courier. Toyota is also up 15%, Kia up 20%, Mazda and Nissan up 23% and Honda up 37%, . At the other end of the scale, BMW is down 16%, Hyundai down 18%, Opel at -20%, Seat at -28%, Mitsubishi at -42%, Jeep at -55% and Citroen at -64%. Great performers in the models ranking include the Mercedes C-Class at #19 and up 52% so far in 2015 and the Toyota Hilux up a whopping 148 spots on September to #25 now that the new generation has hit dealerships all around the country.
But the big event this month in Turkey is the landing of the successor to the local hero the Fiat Linea originally launched in 2006, #1 in Turkey in 2012 and 2013, edged out by the Renault Fluence for just 13 units in 2014 but well on track to finish 2015 in pole position. After unveiling the Aegis concept last May, Fiat finally decided on Egea for the name of what it expects to be its new blockbuster, not only ‘at home’ in Turkey but in the whole of Central Europe where it is aiming at the Dacia Logan in what is a low-cost first for the Italian manufacturer. For now, he Egea lands at #70 with 217 sales, and is already having an impact on the Linea down to #6 from #2 in September.
