The recovery continues for new car sales in Portugal, with September up 30% year-on-year to 12.625 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total up 29% to 138.268 deliveries. German luxury manufacturer Mercedes astoundingly holds onto the brands pole position it held last month thanks to sales up 41% to 1.233 and 9.8% share, seven units above Renault (+42%) while Volkswagen (+23%) rounds up the podium but loses market share year-on-year. Other great performers in Portugal this month include, in ranking order, Toyota (+57%), Opel (+54%), Audi (+39%), Smart (+172%), Mazda (+135%), Lexus (+115%) and Jaguar (+150%). Mercedes’ domination of the brands charts translates into three nameplate placing inside the Top 20: the A-Class ranks 5th (-2 on August), the C-Class 9th (+8%) and the CLA 16th (stable). The Renault Clio returns to the #1 spot it holds year-to-date, albeit with a meagre 9-units advantage over the VW Golf, the Renault Mégane is up 6 spots on August and 38% year-on-year to #3, the Toyota Auris is up 5 to #6, the Toyota Yaris up 10 to #7, the Fiat 500X up 32 to #35 and the Smart Forfour up 3 to #40.
