The Canadian new light vehicle market celebrates 30 consecutive months of year-on-year gains in September at +4% to 174.447 deliveries, lifting the year-to-date total to a record-breaking 1.462.372 units, up 2.5% on 2014. Ford Moto Co. (15.9%) and General Motors (14%) pass FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (13.5%) in the groups ranking, however the latter keeps the year-to-date lead at 15.6% share vs. 14.8% for Ford and 13.7% for GM. Toyota Motor Co. is back above Hyundai-Kia year-to-date, Honda Motor is up 16%, Nissan Motor up 10%, BMW-Mini up 12% and Jaguar Land Rover up a splendid 44%.
Lincoln sales are up 47% year-on-year in Canada this month.
Brand-wise, Ford’s domination is even more marked this month at 15.7% vs. 9.3% for the #2 Toyota, with the entire Top 7 best-sellers identical to the year-to-date total thanks to Honda up 14% to #3 and Ram up 25% to get back to #7. Further down, Subaru (+11%), Mercedes (+13%), Acura (+35%), Lexus (+44%), Cadillac (+35%), Infiniti (+23%), Lincoln (+47%), Land Rover (+58%), Mini (+78%), Porsche (+39%) and Scion (+57%) all lodge spectacular year-on-year gains.
Ram Pickup sales are up 31% year-on-year this month.
At 12.909 sales, the Ford F-Series historically breaks its monthly volume record in Canada, with its previous best dating from May 2013 (12.740) which had since been approached in August 2013 (12.736) and September 2014 (12.733) but never beaten. It’s an interesting year to beat a record for the F-Series, plagued by stock issues and delays for the all-new aluminium F-150 and down 6% so far in 2015 at 91.659 units. The Ram Pickup shoots up a spectacular 31% year-on-year this month to rank at a solid #2 with 8.607 sales, with the GMC Sierra (+10%) making it 3 pickups in the Top 4.
Other great performers include the Hyundai Elantra (+41%), Honda CR-V (+27%), Jeep Cherokee (+31%) and Hyundai Tucson (+37%), while the newly launched Honda HR-V (#38), Mazda CX-3 (#50) and Lexus NX (#58) continue to sparkle. This month we welcome the all-new Scion iM landing at #123 in the Canadian ranking (vs. #165 in the US), note that the car sold as the Scion iA in the US is sold as the Toyota Yaris sedan in Canada.
