It seems like the Swiss new car market has suddenly started shaking off years of stagnation in the past couple of months: August marks the third consecutive double-digit year-on-year increase at +18% to 23.431 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total to 215.457 units, up 9% on 2014. Volkswagen is the most popular brand in the country as usual, evolving like the market at 12.5% share (+18%). The 3 luxury German carmakers continue their race to the top: Mercedes is up to 2nd place overall thanks to sales up a whopping 42% on August 2014 to 1.925 units, distancing BMW at 1.850 (+31%) with Audi in 4th place at 1.701 (+26%). In ranking order, Renault (+46%), Opel (+32%), Mazda (+71%), Seat (+39%), Subaru (+154%), Porsche (+77%) and Smart (+361%) all take off.
The CX-3 helps Mazda sales up 71% in August in Switzerland.
Model-wise, below the ultra-dominant VW Golf (5.2% share) and Skoda Octavia (3.7%), the Seat Alhambra soars 26 spots on July to brilliantly land on the podium thanks to the facelifted model with 479 sales and 2% share. The VW Polo makes the Top 4 best-sellers 100% Volkswagen Group, with the BMW 2 Series improving further on extremely strong scores in the past two months (#9 in June and #6 in July) to reach an outstanding 5th position with 452 units and 1.9%.
