Spain 1st Half 2015: Seat Leon ahead of Ibiza in market up 23%

Spain is definitely on the mend: after gaining 18% this time last year, new car sales the country, sustained by an extended scrappage scheme, are up another 23% over the First Half of 2015 to 558.544 registrations, the best 6-month score in Spain since 2010. The Top 4 best-selling manufacturers come in the same order as in FY2014, albeit at slightly lower market shares for the Top 3: Volkswagen (+15%), Seat (+21%), Opel (+17%) and Renault (+32%) dominate, with Nissan (+53%) delivering the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 10. Below, the best performers include Mazda (+50%), Smart (+60%), Kia (+65%), Lexus (+68%), Mitsubishi (+129%) and Jeep (+316%).

Fresh from being crowned in an annual ranking at home for the first time in 2014, the Seat Leon repeats this performance over the First Half of 2015 thanks to sales up 25% to 19.545 units vs. +17% to 19.385 sales for the Seat Ibiza, #1 a year ago. The VW Polo (+7%) and Golf (+10%) take advantage of the Opel Corsa letting go (-11%) to gain one spot each to #3 and #4 respectively, with the Renault Mégane up a fantastic 32% to 5th place overall. The Nissan Qashqai however snaps the title of most improved in the Top 10 at +40% to return inside the Top 10 at #9. The SUV craze intensifies in Spain: the Renault Captur (+69%), Kia Sportage (+49%), Peugeot 2008 (+90%) and Zaragoza-built Opel Mokka (+181%) now all fit inside the Top 20 vs. none one year ago… The Citroen C4 Cactus (#23), Opel Zafira Tourer (#44) and Nissan Pulsar (#49) storm into the Top 50.
