The Republic of Vanuatu is a South Pacific archipelago nation located 1.750 km (1.090 mi) east of northern Australia, southeast of Solomon Islands and west of Fiji (see exact location on map below). In 1906, France and Great Britain agreed to jointly manage the archipelago as the New Hebrides through a British-French Condominium. Vanuatu became independent in 1980, is home to 266,937 inhabitants and made worldwide headlines last April when it got severely hit by Cyclone Pam, inflecting costly damage to the islands. Vanuatu is a Y-shaped archipelago composed of 82 small islands of volcanic origin, with no less than 1.300 km (810 mi) between the most northern and southern islands, giving Vanuatu a total area of 12.274 km2 (4.739 sq mi). Two of these islands (Matthew and Hunter) are also claimed and controlled by France as part of the French collectivity of New Caledonia.

More than in any other South Pacific nation, the Ni-Vanuatu new car market is completely obliterated by Toyota, holding 82.1% share. If fact, Nissan is the only other manufacturer to reach double-digit annual sales figures in 2014 at… 10. The Toyota Hilux is the best-selling nameplate in Vanuatu in 2014, followed by the Hiace and Land Cruiser 70.
