Chile May 2015: Kia threatens Chevrolet for #1 spot

The Chilean new car market is still in difficulty in May: down a harsh 16% year-on-year to 21.184 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 107.861 units after 5 months, down 23% on 2014 which was already down 9% on 2013. Chevrolet remains the most popular manufacturer in the country, but just: at 2.301 units and 10.9% share the American carmaker is over 3 percentage points below its year-to-date level (14.3%) and just 42 units above Kia at 2.259 deliveries and 10.7%. Nissan rounds up the podium like in April thanks to 1.806 sales and 8.5% while Hyundai is back up 3 spots on April to 8% share and remains #3 year-to-date at 8.8%. Mazda is well above its YTD level once again at 5.2% vs. 4%, Volkswagen is up 7 ranks to #12, BMW is up 4 to #19 and Great Wall at #18 and 1.5% leads a Chinese contingent representing 8.8% of the Chilean market vs. 8.1% year-to-date.
