The Bulgarian new car market is up a very dynamic 13% year-on-year to an estimated 2.438 registrations in May, lifting the year-to-date total up 8% to 11.387 units. Sales data for Bulgaria is always to be taken with a pinch of salt as a significant part (a rumoured 30%) go straight to re-export to other European countries and never sees domestic roads. Brand-wise, Dacia continues to dominate with 13.7% but parent-brand Renault is ssnapping at its heels with a very strong 13.4% share in May. Volkswagen (10.4%) returns to the podium above Skoda, Ford (both at 8.4%) and Nissan (5.7%).
Over on the models ranking, we witness a world first this month in Bulgaria which becomes the first country in the world to crown the Renault Captur in a monthly ranking thanks to 156 sales and 6.4% share vs. 146 and 6% for the year-to-date leader: the Dacia Dokker. Again this performance may have been boosted by re-export sales. Notice also the Nissan Qashqai up to #3, the VW Passat up to #7, Peugeot 308 up to #9 and the Citroen C4 Cactus up to #31.
