After a one month-hiatus we return to New Caledonia, an overseas French territory located north-east of Australia, where new car sales are up 9% year-on-year in April to 828 units but remain down 9% year-to-date to 2.990 registrations. Ford keeps the lead thanks to 93 deliveries and 11.2% share and this month Citroen jumps to #2 overall with 9.3% of the market above Peugeot and Dacia both at 8.2%, Hyundai at 7% and Kia at 6.4%. Notice Great Wall at #17, Zhengzhou/Dongfeng at #23 and BYD at #27: less stringent safety and anti-pollution laws in the territory allow Chinese carmakers to sell in New Caledonia whereas they couldn’t in Metropolitan France. The Ford Ranger, Dacia Duster and Ford Fiesta are the most popular nameplates in April, as they are year-to-date, while the Citroen C4 Cactus confirms its blockbuster status in New Caledonia by ranking 4th with 3% of the market, 3 times its share in Metropolitan France (#22 with 1% in April).
