New car sales in India are firing up by 7% year-on-year in January to 227,125 units for the 15 manufacturers publishing monthly data – add around 1% to 2% for an idea of total market size. Maruti-Suzuki tightens its stranglehold on the market even further thanks to sales up 12% on January 2014 to 105,559 units for a 46.5% market share. Hyundai (+4%) is at 15.3% while Honda shines: up 17% to overtake Mahindra for third place. Tata (+19%) has finally bottomed out, Toyota impresses at +16% but Ford (-1%), Chevrolet (-21%), Volkswagen (-9%), Renault (-3%) and Nissan (-50%), Skoda (-8%) and Fiat (-34%) all disappoint. Thanks to the GO+ (816 sales), Datsun lodges its largest volume since last May at a still extremely discreet 1,656 deliveries for a tiny 0.7% market share.
The Maruti Alto (22,889 sales), Swift (19,669) and DZire (19,533) all start the year all guns blazing, each delivering very strong scores. The Hyundai Elite i20 is back up to 5th place thanks to 9,541 units sold, above the Hyundai Grand i10 at 8,724, knocking down the Mahindra Bolero to #7. The Maruti Ciaz is back up 4 spots on December to #13, the Hyundai Xcent up 4 to #18, the Tata Zest down two to #25 and the Tata Bolt is up 13 to #29 with 2,457 sales. First Top 50 ranking for the Datsun GO+ at #44 with 816 sales just below the GO at 840.
