New passenger car sales in Turkey suffers in 2014: down a harsh 12% to 587,331 registrations. Renault continues to be the most popular brand in the country, dropping less than the market at -7% to 90,027 deliveries and 15.3% share, above Volkswagen (-4%) also improving its share to 14.4%. Hyundai (-7%) is up 3 spots to #3, Fiat (-21%) up one to #4 while Opel (-30%) and Ford (-36%) crash down. The 3 premium Germans are in stunning shape in Turkey: BMW is up a splendid 26% to #9, Mercedes up 15% to #10 and Audi up 19% to #12. Notice also Skoda up 13%, Seat up 15%, Volvo up 21% and Jeep up 101%.

Fiat Linea Turkey 2014The Fiat Linea misses out on the #1 spot for 13 units.

Thanks to a record month of December (7,545 sales), the Renault Fluence edges the Fiat Linea out for the annual pole position, literally in the last hours of the year: 32,252 units vs. 32,239 for the Linea, for which it would have been the third consecutive year at #1. It is the first time the Fluence, produced locally in Bursa, tops the annual sales charts in Turkey or in any other country in the world, and the first time the best-selling vehicle in Turkey is a Renault since BSCB started following Turkish LCV sales in 2010. The Mégane was the #1 passenger car from 2004 to 2006 and the Symbol from 2007 to 2011.

Boosted by the new generation, the Toyota Corolla is up 35% to leap onto the podium in third place with 23,464 sales, ahead of the Renault Clio (+2%) while the Renault Symbol tumbles down 27% to #5. This means the Top 5 best-selling nameplates in Turkey are all produced locally. The VW Jetta is up 3 spots to #6, the Hyundai i20 up 5 to #8 and the Dacia Duster is up 5 to #14 whereas the Ford Fiesta is down 50% and 10 spots to #15. Notice also the Skoda Octavia up 44% to #25 and the Audi A3 Sedan landing at an excellent 26th place for its first full year of sales. Turkey is the land of sedans after all…
