Spain December 2014: Seat Leon, Ibiza and Nissan Qashqai on top

Another excellent month for new car sales in Spain, up 22% year-on-year in December to 74,029 registrations, the best December score since 2009 and 2nd best since 2007. This brings the final 2014 total to 857,635 units, up 18% on 2013 and the highest tally since 2010. Brand-wise, Ford brilliantly takes the lead for the first time in at least two years thanks to 6,248 sales and 8.4% share ahead of Seat (8.3%), Volkswagen (8.2%), Renault (8.1%) and Peugeot (7.8%) in a very tight top of the ranking. Notice also Nissan up 92% on December 2013 to #6, Mercedes up 54%, Mazda up 81%, Mitsubishi up 136%, Lexus up 123% and Jeep up 150%.
The Peugeot 2008 is only 35 sales below its stablemate the 208 this month.
For the first time at home, the Seat Leon manages a 2nd consecutive monthly pole position, the 4th this year and 5th all time after June 2011, February 2014, July 2014 and November 2014, thanks to 2,646 sales and 4% share. This score enables the Leon to edge past the Ibiza for the final 2014 top spot which we will study in more detail in the Full Year 2014 post. The Nissan Qashqai is also in great shape, up 6 spots on November to #3, as is the Peugeot 308 up 5 to #7, the Peugeot 2008 up 14 to #12 and only 35 sales below the 208, the Dacia Duster up 6 to #19 and the Opel Mokka at #26.
Further down, notice the Mercedes A-Class at #28, the Mercedes GLA at #31, Mazda CX-5 up 23 ranks on last month to #32, the Range Rover Evoque up 22 to #39 and the Ford Mondeo up a huge 89 spots to #41. Among recent newcomers, both the Nissan Puslar (+25 to #38) and Ford Tourneo Courier (+29 to #44) break into the Spanish Top 50 for the first time, the Jeep Renegade breaks into the Top 100 at #97 and the Lexus NX (#99), BMW X4 (#102) and 2 Series Active Tourer (#103) are stable.
