Chile October 2014: Chevrolet Spark reclaims top spot off Sail

After delivering an all-time record year in 2013, new car sales in Chile are down a harsh 19% year-on-year in October to 25,459 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 279,144 units, down 9% on 2013. Brand-wise, over the first 10 months of 2014 Chevrolet remains the stand-out leader but sees its market share drop 1.4 percentage point over FY2014 to 13.6% thanks to 38,074 sales. Hyundai (9.8%) and Kia (9.2%) round up the podium like in 2013 with market shares on the up, while Toyota and Suzuki overtake Nissan to rank #4 and #5 respectively. Out of the 63 brands communicating official sales over the period, no less than 25 are Chinese (4 more than in 2013) even though their overall market share is down slightly to 10.9% vs. 11.3% in 2013. They are led by Great Wall (#13 above Volkswagen), Chery (#21), JAC (#23), ChangAn (#25) and Dongfeng (#26).
Chile is the only country in the world to have the SSangyong Actyon Sports in the Top 10.
In the models ranking we have access to 9 months 2014 data, the first official data in over a year. The Chevrolet Spark is back to the pole position thanks to 10,271 sales, however this includes both generations still on sale in the country under the Spark and Spark GT names. The Chevrolet Sail is only 69 units below in 2nd place, while the Kia Rio, Hyundai Accent and Mitsubishi L200 all fight a very tight battle for third position. Notice also the SSangyong Actyon Sports at #8, the Suzuki Alto at #15 and the Suzuki Grand Nomade (aka Grand Vitara) at #19.
