Italy September 2014: Lancia Ypsilon up to record second place

Still a shy recovery for the Italian new car market for now at +3% year-on-year in September to 111.394 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 1.043.894 units, up 4% on 2013. Fiat logically dominates the brands ranking with a round 20% market share (+2%) followed by Volkswagen (+11%), Ford (+8%), Opel (+10%) and Peugeot (+11%). Lancia impresses with a 27% surge to 5% share, mostly due to a historical month for the Lancia Ypsilon, up to 2nd place below only the Fiat Panda at 5,113 units and 4.6%. This is simply the best-ever ranking for the Ypsilon nameplate since its original launch in October 2003! In bewteen the Fiat Punto down one spot to #3 and the Fiat 500L stable at #5 but still way below its year-to-date level at 3% share, the Ford Fiesta becomes the most popular foreign model at #4 thanks to 3,531 sales, overtaking the Renault Clio down to #7 while the VW Golf remains very strong at #6.
The Toyota Aygo is among Italy’s 20 most popular vehicles this month.
Further down, notice the Hyundai i10 breaking into the Italian Top 20 at #18 with 1.322 sales, the Toyota Aygo doing the same, shooting up 30 ranks to #20 and 1,264 units thanks to the new generation, the Mini Countryman back up 14 spots to #21, the Renault Twingo up a huge 42 ranks to #22 and the Fiat Freemont holding its rank among the country’s 30 best-sellers. The Mercedes C-Class gets a kick up 48 spots to #46 and the Ford Ecosport is getting ever closer to a Top 50 ranking at #58 with a solid 530 sales and 0.5% market share.
