Egyptian new vehicle sales are definitely back on an explosive growth trend after a couple of wobbly years due to an unstable political situation. The market is up a vertiginous 53% year-on-year in September to 28,264 registrations, lifting the year-to-date total to 210,544 units, up 48% on the same period in 2013 and already above the Full Year 2013 total (195,869 sales)! After being overtaken by the Chevrolet TFR (aka Isuzu D-Max) in August, the Hyundai Verna, an Accent from two generations ago mainly used as taxi, reclaims its crown in the models sales charts thanks to an excellent 2,650 sales and 9.4% share vs. 2,366 and 8.4% for the TFR. Below, the Nissan Sunny and Geely Emgrand 7 are faithful to the #3 and #4 respective spots they occupy year-to-date, while the Chevrolet Aveo is up one notch to 5th place.

The big event is in 6th position: boosted by the arrival of the new generation, the Renault Logan Sedan shoots up 31 ranks on August and sells 1,020 units for a 3.6% market share vs. 1.3% and #21 year-to-date. This is the Logan nameplate’s best ranking in Egypt since December 2012 when it actually ranked #1. Other great performers this month include the Mitsubishi Lancer EX up 6 spots to #10, the Kia Sportage stable at #13 vs. #22 YTD, the Renault Sandero returning to the charts here too thanks to the new model at #19 vs. #38 YTD, the Jinbei Haise splitting its ranking in two at #23 vs. #45 YTD, Nissan Sentra at #33 vs. #76, Peugeot 3008 at #41 vs. #80 and the Suzuki New Alto 800 stabilising around the #50 mark at #52.

We welcome no less than 5 all-new models in the Egyptian sales charts in September, 3 of which Chinese. We start with the Hyundai Grand i10 imported from India and landing directly at the Top 50’s doorstep at #54 with 80 units sold. The DFSK (DongFeng) K01 mini pickup follows at #70 and 42 sales while the BAIC (Beijing Auto) MZ40 minivan and the Brilliance-Jinbei S30 both sell 32 units and rank #79 and #80 respectively. Lastly the Ford Ka sells one unit but it is unclear whether this is a leftover from the European model or the start of the new Brazilian model being imported here.
