A weak month for the new car market in Slovenia, down 2% year-on-year in August to 3,304 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 36,143 units, up 1% on 2013. Volkswagen keeps the lead of the brands ranking at 19.6% share ahead of Renault (12.1%), Skoda (10.5%), Opel (6.9%) and Ford (5.9%). BMW is strong at #11 vs. #15 in July and #14 year-to-date. The VW Golf is up 3 spots on July to overtake the Renault Clio and become the country’s most popular model in August and for the third time in the past 9 months with 282 sales and 8.5% share. It however still trails the Clio year-to-date at 1,949 units and 5.4% vs. 2,263 and 6.3%. Excellent performance of the Fiat 500 up one further rank on last month to #5 with 3.3% share, but the hero of the month is without a doubt the VW Golf Sportsvan improving again on the world-best ranking it held last month: up 11 spots to a fantastic 6th place thanks to 79 units and 2.4% share. Notice also the Hyundai i20 up 46 ranks to #10, the Ford B-Max up 24 to #19, BMW 5 Series up 10 to #32, BMW X3 up to #37 and the Citroen C4 Cactus up 13 to #57.
