South Korea June 2014: Kia Carnival and Samsung QM3 shoot up

Sales of locally produced models in South Korea are up 7% year-on-year in June to 121,221 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 707,343 units, up 5% on 2013. The Hyundai Sonata remains on top of the models sales charts for the third consecutive month thanks to the new generation of the model with 10,793 sales and 8.9% share, cementing its year-to-date leadership at 54,785 units and 7.7%. The Hyundai Porter is back up one spot to reclaim the #2 position it also holds year-to-date with 8,311 sales and 6.9% in June, while the Santa Fe makes the podium 100% Hyundai thanks to 7,813 units and 6.4%.
As the new model spreads in dealerships across the country, the Kia Carnival shoots up 18 ranks on May to break into the South Korean Top 10 for the first time since last July at #9 with 4,272 sales and 3.5%. The Samsung QM3 (none other than the Renault Captur) breaks all its records for its part: up 84% on last month to knock on the Top 10’s door at #11 with 3,971 sales and 3.3% share. Finally, notice the Chevrolet Malibu up a further 3 spots to #20 vs. #27 year-to-date.
