In June the Mexican new car market is up a shy 0.5% year-on-year to 84,127 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to just above half a million units at 500,360, down 0.3% on 2013. Brand-wise, if you are a regular BSCB reader you will know that Mexico is the kingdom of Nissan and this month is no exception, with the Japanese manufacturer grabbing 26% of the market thanks to sales up 5% year-on-year to 21,915 units. General Motors (-11%) and Volkswagen (+1%). Chrysler (-20%) is in trouble, while Toyota (+12%), Honda (+17%) and Renault (+29%) shine. Hyundai, which launched just last month in Mexico, is up 42% on its May score to 1,002 sales and 1.2%. A very encouraging start for the Korean brand.
The VW Vento hits its highest market share yet in Mexico this month.
In the models ranking, the Chevrolet Aveo remains best-seller with 4,337 sales and 5.2% share, but it is now threatened by the Nissan Versa for the top spot, the latter selling 4,292 units for a 5.1% share. Note the Versa has already ranked 2nd many times since its launch here in 2011 but never #1 so far. Below the Nissan Tsuru down 7%, the VW Vento hits its highest ranking yet in Mexico at #4 (also reached last February) and its strongest market share at 3.8% thanks to 3,193 sales. The Nissan Sentra (+24%) and March (+26%) impress as does the Honda CR-V (+34%).
