130,145 new local cars found a buyer in South Korea in April, up 10% year-on-year and bringing the year-to-date total to 464,903 units, up 6% on 2013. The new Hyundai Sonata went on sale last month at home and as a result the nameplate’s sales shot up 227% on March to 15,392 units, securing the pole position by far and a 4th spot year-to-date at 30,305 sales. As a result the Hyundai Porter is knocked down to 2nd place with 9,261 sales and 7.1% but it keeps the 2014 year-to-date leadership for now thanks to 33,776 units and 7.3%. The Kia Morning (aka Picanto) is also down one spot on March to #3 while the Hyundai Santa Fe remains 4th, passing the Hyundai Grandeur down two to #5. Leader over the Full Year 2013, the Hyundai Avante (aka Elantra) is stuck in 6th place both this month and year-to-date, making it 5 Hyundais in the Top 6. Finally, notice the Samsung QM3 (aka Renault Captur) up 10 spots to #26 with 1.1% share.
