The Chilean new car market is up a very solid 11% year-on-year in 2013 to 378,240 registrations, way higher than the 350,000 forecast at the start of the year and to my knowledge an all-time record for the country. In the brands ranking, Chevrolet remains the best-seller by far in spite of sales down 1% to 56,596 units, losing almost two percentage points of market share at 15%. Hyundai is down from 10.4% to 9.2% but stays #2 while Kia passes Nissan to become the third best-selling car market in the country with 8.4% share. Notice also Mazda up 48% and 9 spots to #9, SsangYong up 17% to #11, Mahindra up 52% to #15, Fiat up 49% to #16 and Mercedes up 62% to #19.
There are no less than 19 Chinese carmakers in the Chilean ranking this year: Great Wall still leads the way but is down 1% and 3 spots to #13, Chery down 4 to #20, JAC is up 25% but down two to #21, BYD is up 39% to #26, ChangAn up 79% to #29, Dongfeng up 109% to #30, MG up 50% to #31, ZNA up 63% to #35 and Foton up 200% to #36.
Model-wise, the most recent ranking available is for the first half of the year, if you have access to more recent data please make sure to get in touch! Over the period, the Chevrolet Sail leads the way by far with 4,453 sales, ahead of the Kia Rio at 2,670 units, the Nissan Terrano at 2,500 sales, the Hyundai Accent and Kia Morning. Notice also the SsangYong Actyon at #6 and the Renault Samsung SM3 (aka Fluence) at #8
