It was a very tough year for the Venezuelan new car market, down a harsh 24% on 2012 to 98,878 registrations, not helped by a month of December down 64% to just 2,959 sales. The models ranking is dominated by ‘oldies’: the Chevrolet Aveo is the best-seller in the country for the 9th consecutive year in spite of sales down 33% to 11,118 units and 11.2% share. However the Aveo on sale in Venezuela is the one from two generations ago. Similar situation in 2nd place: the previous generation Mitsubishi Lancer is up a fantastic 23% and 3 spots year-on-year to 7,975 sales and 8.1%. The Toyota Corolla rounds up the podium even though it is down 21% on 2012 to 4,828 units and 4.9%.
There are two newcomers in the Venezuelan Top 10 this year: the Chevrolet Orlando is up 370% to land at #7 with 3,490 sales and 3.5% share for its first full year of sales in the country, and in 8th position we have the big surprise of the year: the Dongfeng S30 up 377% to 3,307 sales and 3.3% and even topping the year-to-date ranking in February! Notice also the Mazda BT-50 up 17% to #11, the Dodge Forza (a locally produced badge-engineered previous gen Fiat Siena) up to #17 with 1,965 sales and peaking at #3 in December, the Fiat Siena up 84% to #18, Civetchi Pickup (aka Dongfeng Rich) up 74% to #20 and the Haima 7 up 376% to #22.
