Italy December 2013: Mini Countryman inside Top 20 for first time in first positive month since May 2010!

After 42 consecutive month of year-on-year decline, finally the drought is broken and the Italian new car market gain a shy 0.8% in December to 89,590 registrations, bringing the final 2013 total to 1,310,949 units, down 7% on 2012. Very stable models ranking this month: the entire Top 5 best-sellers are almost identical to last month’s, with the Fiat Panda in the lead at 7.6% share followed by the Fiat Punto (4.3%), Lancia Ypsilon (4.1% – its highest share since last April), Ford Fiesta and Fiat 500L once again beating its lil sis the Fiat 500 at 3.2% vs. 2.8%.
Outside the Top 10, the Peugeot 208 is back above its SUV brother the 2008 at #12 vs. #15 and the Renault Captur is back up 3 spots to #14, meaning both the Captur and 2008 are inside the Italian Top 15 for the first time. Record-breaking performance for the Mini Countryman, brewing into the Top 20 for the very first time at #19 with 1,154 sales and 1.3% while the VW Up! is up 5 ranks on November to hit #20 thanks to 1,148 units.
Further down, notice the Hyundai i10 up 17 to #29, the Toyota Auris very strong again at #34 vs. #53 over the full year, the BMW X1 up 19 to #43 and in the brands ranking Maserati is up a gargantuan 411% year-on-year this month with 46 sales including 35 Maserati Ghibli which add up to 76 over the Full Year.
