To the surprise of many local industry observers, the Brunei new car market is up year-on-year in 2013, albeit by only 0.04% to 18,642 registrations. 2012 reached a 5-year high level and the market was thought to pause slightly in 2013. Not so. However with HBSC’s exit from the car financing market, 2014 is definitely forecast to be slower than 2013. Toyota remains the most popular carmaker in the country thanks to sales up 2% to 3,881 and 20.8% share and should place the Vios atop the models charts once again this year. After gaining 89% in 2012, Kia is back down 27% in 2013 but stays 2nd at 2,486 units and 13.3%, followed by Suzuki. BMW wins the premium race ahead of Mercedes and Lexus.
