As is the tradition on BSCB, each month I share with you the sales of locally produced models provided by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association, a pretty accurate representation of the most popular cars in the country as imports are very limited. In October, sales of local cars in Pakistan are up 6% year-on-year in October to 9,955 registrations, however October 2012 was down 38% on the year before so still a shy result here. The year-to-date total now stands at 120,566 units, down 12% on 2012. After being passed by the Suzuki Mehran last month, the Toyota Corolla reclaims its traditional pole position thanks to 2,266 sales and 22.8% vs. 1,972 and 19.8% for the Mehran. The best performer this month is the Suzuki Cultus (a 1989 Swift), up to #3 with 1,258 units and 12.6%, its strongest share since I have started following Pakistanese car sales! This performance earns it a third spot year-to-date as well, passing the Suzuki Bolan.
