Norwegian new car sales are up 4% year-on-year in October to 12,893 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 118,677 units, up 2% on 2012. After the Tesla Model S wrote history last month by leading the models ranking, Norway is under the worldwide spotlight once again in October, because the Nissan Leaf flamboyantly grabs the pole position thanks to 716 sales and 5.6% share! If you weren’t convinced Norway is the kingdom of electric cars, well you should by now. The Leaf is up to #4 year-to-date at 3,755 units and 3.2% share. Meanwhile the Tesla Model S is back to earth (meaning outside the Top 20) with 98 sales and 0.8%, making Tesla the #22 brand between Renault and Lexus.
In 2nd place, the Toyota Auris is up to an outstanding 679 sales and 5.3% and here too this is an eco-friendly story as 75% of Auris sales in October are hybrids. The VW Golf is relegated to third position this month at 5% share but remains by far the best-seller year-to-date at 6,239 units and 5.3% vs. 3,982 and 3.4% for the Toyota Auris at #2. Notice also the Skoda Octavia holding an excellent 4th place at 4.2% share vs. #9 and 2.3% year-to-date.
