Malaysia October 2013: Market up 6%, still on track for record year

The Malaysian Automotive Association reporter October new car sales in the country were up 6% on October 2012 to 55,078 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 543,048 units, 6% higher than the same period in 2012 and still on track for a record Full Year 2013 predicted at 640,000 units. The MAA even predicted November and December sales data could be higher because of a backlog of orders from October and a potential boost coming from the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show on from 15 to 24 November.
As it has now been the case for over a year, this is all the information I can share with you on the Malaysian car market. This is because the Competition Commissioner believes that sharing of detailed historical sales data will a negative effect on competition and place consumers at a disadvantage. As a result many companies are unwilling to supply the data to the Malaysian Automotive Association, no models ranking has been made available since May 2012 and the brands ranking is only available twice a year.
