Brazil October 2013: Honda Civic hits highest ranking in 5 years

Down 23% in August but up 6% in September, the Brazilian new car market is back into negative in October at -4% to 313,490 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 2,951,825 units, down 1.4% on 2012. The leading trio is unchanged but all models deliver market shares below their year-to-date levels: the VW Gol is at 6.9% vs. 7.1% followed by the Fiat Uno at 4.6% vs. 5.3% and the Fiat Palio at 4.3% vs. 5%. Another outstanding month for the Ford Fiesta, ranking #4 for the third time in the last 4 months thanks to 13,265 sales and 4.3% while the Fiat Siena is also very strong at 12,378 units and 3.9%.
The Chevrolet Onix is up 2 spots on September to reach its best ranking since last March at #6 with 11,874 units and 3.8%. For its part the Hyundai HB20 is up 3 ranks to #7 at 10,467 sales and 3.3%, its highest ranking in Brazil since last April. The most impressive model in the Top 20 is however the Honda Civic, bolstered by the 2014 model and up 6 spots to #11 at 7,159 units and 2.3%, its highest ranking in the country since the #10 it hit in January 2009!
Further down, the Chevrolet Prisma gains one further spot to #15, the Peugeot 208 is up 6 to #33, the VW Golf is back inside the Top 50 at #45 and the Toyota RAV4 is up to #63 vs. #100 year-to-date. Two new models make sparks this month in Brazil: the Citroen C4L is up to #69 with 841 sales and the Chevrolet Tracker (aka Trax) ranks #70 for its 2nd month in market at 826 units. In the Chinese aisle, we have a complete reshuffle: the Chery QQ leads the way at #81 followed by the JAC J2 at #98, Lifan X60 at #101, Chery Celer at #102 and JAC J3 at #106…
