The French new car market is down a moderate 3% year-on-year over the first 2 weeks of September to a little bit more than 51,000 registrations. A good hold in a depressed context that mainly comes from foreign brands: the French only grab 43% market share with Citroen down 20% and Peugeot down 22%. Reversely, Volkswagen is up 3% to just under 10% market share, placing the Golf VII at an excellent 4th place with 1,503 sales and 2.9% and the Polo at #8 with 2.2%, while Toyota is up 8% to #5 and 5.4% share, with the Yaris brilliantly maintaining itself inside the Top 10 thanks to the hybrid variant at #9 with 1,131 units and 2.2%.
Atop the models ranking, the Renault Clio IV has already secured the top spot with 2,424 sales and 4.8% so far, a feat that normally occurs later in the month given how back-loaded Renault sales are. This is partly due to the struggle of the Peugeot 208, surprisingly down 32% year-on-year to 2,044 units and 4%. The Citroen C3 is on the podium at #3, the Renault Captur is up to an excellent 5th place with 1,301 sales and 2.6% and the Renault Scenic has taken the advantage over its archenemy the Citroen C4 Picasso II at 1,232 units vs. 1,144.
