China August 2013: Great Wall Haval H6 breaks sales record again

The new Passenger Car market gains a very healthy 11% year-on-year in August to 1.35 million units, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. This growth is fuelled by SUVs, up 46% on August 2012 to 240,100 units, and MPVs, up a whopping 162% to 105,600 sales while sedans are up 4% to 899,100. Total sales including LCVs, buses and trucks are up 10% to 1.65 million, adding up to 13.9 million after 8 months and still on track to pass the 20 million mark by the end of 2013 for the first time ever.

VW Santana

Thanks to sales of the Gran Lavida station wagon variant, now above 10,000 units, the VW Lavida reclaims the models ranking pole position with 39,450 units, up 95% year-on-year, leaving the Ford Focus at #2 with 30,959 sales, up 21%. Year-to-date, the Lavida leads too at 291,894 units vs. 249,576 for the Focus.

Honda Crider

In fact, no less than 4 Volkswagens manage to rank inside the Top 5 this month: the Sagitar is up one spot on July to land in third place with 23,558 sales, the Passat is back up 12 ranks to #4 at 22,201 units and the Jetta is down 2 to #5… Further down, the Bora is #7 and the new gen Santana, whose production has started in the brand-new Urumqi plant, is up one spot on last month to #12 and 97% year-on-year to 18,044 sales.

Venucia R50

The Great Wall Haval H6 manages to retain its Top 10 spot for the 2nd month in a row, down one rank to #8 but breaking its monthly sales record at 20,968 units, the first time it ever passes the 20,000 sales milestone! The H6 is the best-selling SUV in the country and by far the best-selling Chinese model, above the Emgrand EC7 at #24 and the Great Wall Haval M4 at #31, the only 3 local representatives in the Top 31! Note there are 8 additional locals inside the Top 50, including the Venucia D50/R50 up 168% year-on-year to an all-time high #38…

Haima M3

Already a hero last month, the Honda Crider continues to impress, gaining a further 21% on its July score to reach 12,500 sales and #27, by very far the brand’s best-selling sedan – the Civic is #69 at 5,142 units! Notice also the Hyundai ix35 exactly doubling its sales year-on-year to #21, the Audi Q3 up 10 ranks to a best-ever #62, the FAW Besturn B50 up 15 to #65, FAW Besturn X80 up 14 to #67, Lianhua L3 up 39 to #73 and the Skoda Rapid and Haima M3 both breaking into the Chinese Top 100 for the very first time at #90 and #91 respectively.
