New car sales in Argentina are up a very healthy 7% year-on-year in August to 81,532 registrations, that’s nearly as much as in France (85,565) and twice as much as in Spain (39,931)! The year-to-date total is up 10% on 2012 to a record 669,606 units. For the first time since the two generations of Gol are counted separately in Argentina (January 2011), the VW Gol Trend (current gen) brilliantly takes the lead of the models ranking thanks to 3,220 sales and 3.9% share and is now #4 year-to-date. Note that with the Gol Power (previous gen), total Gol sales for the month amount to 5,044 units or 6.2% of the Argentinean market. The Chevrolet Classic is kicked down to #2 but remains leader by far year-to-date with 26,369 sales and 3.9%.

Peugeot 208 Argentina August 2013Peugeot 208

The other star of the month is the Peugeot 208: for its 4th appearance in the Argentinean ranking it achieves the fantastic feat of landing on the podium at #3 thanks to 2,898 units sold for a 3.6% share. The 208’s progression in Argentina has been meteoric: #112 in May, #80 in June, #9 in July and #3 in August! The pole position could be in sight sooner than everyone expected… Other great performers include the Renault Logan maintaining itself inside the Top 20 at #20 vs. #38 year-to-date and the Fiat Punto up 16 spots on July to #22. We welcome the Chery Fulwin at #91 with 83 sales.
