The Austrian new car market is up an encouraging 1% year-on-year in July to 28,543 registrations, however the year-to-date total is still down 7% at 199,747 units. The VW Golf and Polo dominates as is also the case year-to-date with 4.6% and 3.2% share respectively, but the hero of the month is without a doubt the Hyundai ix35 up 3 spots on June to brilliantly land on the Austrian podium for the very first time thanks to 637 sales and 2.2% share. It beats its previous best of #5 reached in June 2012 and delivers a 4th consecutive month inside the Top 10 whereas the ix35 had not ranked within the Austrian Top 10 at all before 2012.
Hyundai is in great shape: it is the #2 brand in the country this month behind just Volkswagen at 2,079 sales and 7.3% share, and places a second model in the Top 5: the i20 is up 3 ranks to #5. Other great performers this month include the Renault Scenic up 4 spots to #6, the VW Sharan up 12 to #12, Ford Galaxy up 13 to #13 vs. #39 year-to-date, the Mazda CX-5 up 4 to #14 vs. #34 year-to-date, the Opel Zafira at #18 vs. #36, Suzuki Swift up 35 to #31 and the Ford Kuga up 23 to #36. Finally, notice the Renault Captur down 3 to #39 and the Peugeot 2008 down 19 to #62.
