As in neighbour Russia, new car sales in Ukraine hit the brakes in June: down 18% year-on-year to 16,534 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 104,276 units, down 5% on 2012. Whereas before last month it had not led the Ukrainian models charts since January 2012, the ZAZ Sens is in pole position for the 2nd time running in June, even improving its market share from 3.8% to 4.4% thanks to 732 sales. It is however still #2 year-to-date at 3,092 units and 3% vs. 3,315 and 3.2% for the Hyundai Accent, down to #6 this month. In fact, like in May, local manufacturer ZAZ manages to place 3 models inside the Ukrainian June Top 5: the Lanos is up 2 spots to #3 at 3% and the Vida, a rebadged previous generation Chevrolet Aveo, is down one to #4.

But the big event in this month Ukrainian models ranking is the 2nd position held by the Skoda Rapid, up 5 ranks on May to a fantastic 520 sales and 3.1% share. Whereas in most countries (including Czech Republic), Rapid sales are still lagging behind both the Fabia and Octavia in-between which it slots in the Skoda range, in Ukraine the Rapid is the brand’s runaway success, selling over twice as much as the Fabia this month (#22, 191 sales) and completely annihilating the Octavia: leader in 2012, it is down to #11 so far in 2013 and to #83 in June with just 50 units sold!

Another interesting evolution is the Renault Logan up 5 spots to #4 at 492 units and 3%, Ukraine being one of the first countries in the world to launch the new generation Logan under the Renault brand (Russia doesn’t have it yet), it is in fact a Renault Symbol. Further down, notice the Fiat Doblo up 2 further ranks to #9 vs. #18 year-to-date, the Bogdan 110 (aka Lada 110) up 11 to #10, the Ford Fiesta up 6 to #12, Lada Priora up 15 to #16, Daewoo Nexia up 58 to #20 and the Honda CR-V up a huge 80 ranks on May to #24.

How are the Chinese faring in Ukraine this month? Actually not so well. There are still 19 of them in the Top 150 though, but the Geely CK is down 3 spots to #11 (now #4 year-to-date), the Geely MK down 9 to #25, ZAZ Forza (aka Chery Fulwin 2) down 7 to #36, Geely MK-2/Cross down 8 to #47, BYD F3 down 25 to #96 and the Geely Emgrand EC7 down 81 (!) to #103. On the other hand, the Great Wall Voleex C30 is up 35 to #73, and the Lifan X60 (#136), Chery Beat (#140), BYD S6 (#142), Chery Kimo (#143), MG 6 (#146) and FAW CA1031 (#150) are all back inside the Top 150…
