After a write-off of a first quarter (-46% on 2012!), the Croatian new car market is feeling a little more rosy now: sales are down just 1% year-on-year in May at 3,344 units, making it the first 3,000+ sales month in Croatia since June 2012! The year-to-date total stands at 12,194 registrations, still down a paltry 28% on 2012. Volkswagen continues to conquer the market, now placing the VW Golf and Polo atop the sales charts both this month and year-to-date. In fact with 272 sales, the VW Golf delivers the best monthly volume for any vehicle since the VW Polo sold 318 units in June 2011…
All Top 6 models lodge much higher market shares than their 2013 year-to-date levels this month: the Golf is at 8.1% vs. 6.3%, the Polo at 7.4% vs. 5.3%, the Opel Astra at 6.2% vs. 5.1%, the Opel Corsa at 5.9% vs. 3.1%, the Hyundai i30 at 3.7% vs. 2.7% and the Chevrolet Spark coming up from outside the Top 20 in April directly to #6 at 3% share vs. 1.5% year-to-date.
