South Africa April 2013: Toyota Hilux & Mercedes A-Class shine

After losing ground year-on-year last month for the first time since the creation of this site, South African new car sales are back in familiar territory, up 19% in April to 50,920 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 214,159 units, up 7% on 2012. The Toyota Hilux enjoys its third consecutive month in pole position thanks to 3,227 sales and 6.3% share, reinforcing its 2013 YTD lead at 12,998 units and 6.1% vs. 12,480 and 5.8% for the VW Polo Vivo which remains #2 this month with 2,762 sales and 5.4%. The VW Polo rounds up the podium as usual at 2,160 units and 4.2%.
The Ford Ranger is stable at the highest level: 4th again in April with 1,787 sales and 3.5% which is its highest ranking in the country. The Toyota Etios celebrates 12 months in market, all spent within the Top 7 which is a remarkable achievement in contrast with the other markets it was launched in so far. The Renault Sandero is up 8 spots on March to #20, the Toyota RAV4 is up to #23 thanks to the new model, the Mercedes A-Class is up a brilliant 71 ranks to #29 and the Renault Clio IV lands at #40.
