As is now the tradition, after going through overall German sales for March, let’s now have a look at the private sales (PS) ranking. As usual it paints a very different picture. Volkswagen is still dominant with the Golf, Polo and Tiguan in the lead like last month, while Mercedes brilliantly places the A-Class at #4 (+3) and the B-Class at #5 (-1). The BMW 1 Series is back up 3 spots to #6 followed by the Skoda Fabia (-2), Ford Fiesta (+12), and BMW 3 Series, up 10 ranks to #9 even though its PS ratio is at a very low 27%.
Further down, Mercedes impresses again with the C-Class up 5 spots to #10 and the E-Class up 10 ranks to an impressive 12th spot with a strong (for this segment) 44% PS ratio and well above the #20 it holds in the overall ranking. Other great performers include the Opel Mokka up 12 spots to #14 and 71% PSs ratio, the Dacia Sandero up to #25 with an out-of-this-world 90% PS ratio and the Dacia Duster up to #31 and 80% PS ratio.
Other strong private sales ratios are delivered by the Toyota Auris (78%), Ford B-Max (70%), Toyota Yaris (69%), Skoda Yeti and Roomster, both at 68%. On the other end of the scale, the Opel Astra is at a paltry 23% and the VW Golf, Audi A3 and Ford Focus are all at 29%. Finally it is interesting to note that the Skoda Octavia’s record performance in the overall market is not due to private sales as these only account for 33% of its total amount for the month.
