Chile Full Year 2012: Chevrolet Sail dominates for the first time

The Chilean new vehicle market is up 1% year-on-year in 2012 to 338,826 registrations. After two years of Hyundai Accent domination, the Chevrolet Sail, imported from China, takes the lead of the models ranking in Chile in 2012 with 14,760 sales and 4.4%, far above the Accent at 9,769 units and 2.9% while the Kia Rio rounds up the podium with 9,113 sales and 2.7%. The Chevrolet Spark follows, ahead of the Toyota Yaris, Nissan Tiida, Chevrolet Spark GT and Kia Morning. Notice also the Samsung SM3 at #9 – its highest in the world vs. #24 at home in South Korea, if we exclude its #2 spot in Turkey where it is sold as the Renault Fluence.

In the brands ranking, Chevrolet dominates with 16.7% of the market, followed by Hyundai at 10.4%, Nissan at 10.2%, Kia at 8.6% and Toyota at 7.8%. Suzuki is the only other carmaker to sell over 10,000 units in the country this year at #6. There are no less than 18 Chinese carmakers in the ranking, led by Great Wall at #11, Chery at #16, JAC at #20, Geely at #26, BYD at #27, Hafei at #30 and Lifan at #31. Notice also MG at #32, ChangAn at #33, Zotye at #38 and Brilliance at #42.
