This is it: dropping by an alarming 24% year-on-year to 64,189 units in September, new car sales in Argentina are now down 2% year-to-date at 659,165 registrations. Looks like 2011 will remain the country’s record year for a little while still. No surprise in the models ranking pole position: the Chevrolet Classic is stable at 4.5% share thanks to 2,864 sales, adding up to 33,237 and 5% year-to-date. Good operation for the 7 year-old VW Gol Power, up 2 spots on July to a shiny 2,491 units and 3.9%.

Ford Ranger

The Ford Ka is the performer of the month, up a massive 16 ranks on August to land on the third step of the podium for the first time in the nameplate’s career with 2,464 sales and 3.8% share vs. #10 and 2.3% year-to-date. Another Ford impresses this month: the Ranger manages to sell more than its archenemy the Toyota Hilux  for the second time ever after July. It ranks #7 at 1,974 units and a record 3.1% share vs. #9 and 2.9% for the Hilux.

Other good performers this month in Argentina include the Renault Kangoo up 4 spots to #8, the Peugeot Partner at #11, the Peugeot 308 at #17, the Fiat Palio up 3 ranks to #18, the Honda Fit up a further 2 to #26 vs. #40 year-to-date, the Fiat Qubo at #32 vs. #49 ytd and the Chevrolet Sonic at #41 vs. #60 ytd.
