Belgium 7 months 2012: Megane/Scenic on top, BMW 5 Series #10

It is surprisingly rare to obtain a models ranking for Belgium, and thanks to DC we finally have our first one for 2012! Over the first 7 months of the year, the Belgian new car market is down 13% on 2011 to 285,116 registrations. The models ranking is biased by the fact that MPV versions of compact cars are counted together. This means the Renault Megane/Scenic leads the way by far with 13,571 sales and 5.3%, ahead of the VW Golf at 7,881 units and 3.1% and the Citroen C4/C4 Picasso with 6,068 sales and 2.4%.

BMW 5 Series

Based on 2011 models splits, I estimate the Renault Megane to still lead the ranking over the period with 8,414 sales and 3.3%, followed by the VW Golf at 3.1%, the VW Polo and Opel Corsa at 2.3% and the Opel Astra and Renault Clio at 2.2%.

Peugeot Partner

Further down, the best performance so far in 2012 is without a doubt delivered by the BMW 5 Series, brilliantly climbing into the Top 10 with 4,490 sales and 1.7% share. The Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner both fall just short of breaking into the Top 10, but if these two identical models were counted together they would rank at an unbelievable second place!
