Once again the Finnish new car market suffers from the after-effects of the tax hike that occurred on April 1 and forwarded thousands of sales into March, with July sales down 25% year-on-year to 6,290 registrations and bringing the year-to-date total to 72,375 units, down 8% on 2011. For only the second time ever after last January, the Nissan Qashqai is the most popular model in Finland this month, leading the ranking by far with 355 sales and 5.6% share. The Skoda Octavia ranks 2nd at 259 units, followed by the Ford Focus up 6 spots on June to #3 with 255 sales.
The Toyota Avensis is still 2012 year-to-date’s best-seller with 3,232 units and 4.5%, and is up 2 ranks to #4 in June while the VW Golf, #1 last month, is down 4 to #5. The Kia Rio continues to perform extremely well month after month, up 3 spots to #7 in July with 179 sales and 2.8% share. Notice also the Honda Civic holding well at #20 vs. #28 year-to-date.
