The Indian car market is up a very healthy 15% in February at 260,053 registrations, the highest monthly sales total ever in India! This brings the 2012 year-to-date figure to 502,791 units, up 11%. No surprise in pole position: the Maruti Alto still leads the way with 32,909 sales and 12.7%. The Maruti Swift ranks #2 and becomes the second model only with the Alto to sell over 20,000 units in a single month in India at a best-ever 20,739!

Hyundai Eon

Boosted by the new generation now in dealerships, the Maruti Dzire – a Swift sedan – jumps up to third position and also breaks its sales record at 15,068 sales and 5.8% share, its previous best being 11,797 in April 2011. Below the Maruti Wagon R still solid at 5% share, a third model breaks records this month: the Hyundai Eon passes the 10,000 monthly units bar for the first time with 10,480 sales at a best-ever #5 only 6 month after its launch last September.

Honda Brio

The Tata Nano is up one spot on January to #8 with 9,217 sales, its best monthly figure since last April and second best ever. With Thailand supply now back to normal, the Honda City is back up to #14 with 6,052 sales while the Honda Brio delivers its best month so far at #33 with 2,046 sales. Other models breaking their record this month are the Mahindra XUV500 at 2,729 sales, the Skoda Rapid at 2,204 units and the Tata Venture with 1,102 sales.
