The Danish car market continues on its record-breaking run, up a further 22% year-on-year in February at 14,180 registrations, bringing the 2012 year-to-date total to 27,055 units, up 13% on 2011. After leading the way in 2011, the Chevrolet Spark is the best-selling model in the country for the second month in a row in 2012 with 609 sales and 4.3% share. Chevrolet manages an impressive 1-2 it can’t even deliver in the United States with the Aveo taking the 2nd spot at 461 units and 3.3%!
The Toyota Aygo is back up 21 spots on January to close the podium, much closer to the 2nd place it reached in the Full Year 2011. Koreans are omnipresent in Denmark once again with the Kia Picanto holding a vey solid 4th position with 421 sales and 3%, ahead one of the two stars of the month, the Kia Rio, up another 10 ranks on last month to reach an outstanding 5th place, its highest so far in Western Europe, at 386 units and 2.7%. The Hyundai i30 at #6 makes it 5 Koreans in the Top 6 as the two Chevrolets were born in South Korea…
Excellent month for the Opel Insignia, up a massive 56 spots on last month to land #8 with 2.1% share. The other star of the month is the VW Up! Fitting perfectly the urban environment Denmark has to offer, VW’s mini lands directly in 15th position for its first true month of sales in the country with 249 sales and 1.9% share. Given its previous world best was #22 in Germany last December, this is the highest position the Up has reached anywhere in the world so far… Notice also the Citroen DS5 appearing for the first time in the Danish ranking at #66 with 73 sales.
