Very poor month for car sales in Portugal, down a dramatic 40% year-on-year in October to 9,126 registrations, which brings to year-to-date total to 132,653 units, down 26%. The Renault Megane dominates the models ranking again by far with 481 sales and 5.3%, reinforcing its 2011 leadership at 7,324 units and 5,5% share. Renault manages a 1-2 with the Clio in 2nd place, up 7 spots on September with 329 sales and 3.6%, and still #3 year-to-date with 4,997 units and 3.8%, behind the Seat Ibiza down to #10 this month.
The VW Golf stays on the podium at #3 and 3.3%, followed by its little sister the Polo at #4 and 2.9%. The Opel Astra is back in shape at #5 and 2.6% while the BMW 3 Series delivers the performance of the month, up to a fantastic 6th position with 240 sales and 2.6% share, possibly boosted by end-of-stock promotion on the current generation before the launch of the 2012 model (pictured) early next year. Other great performers include the Mercedes C Class at #9, the Toyota Yaris new generation at #15, the Citroen C1 at #17 and the Audi A3 at #19.
