USA August 2011: Nissan Altima shines, Kia Sorento #18

Stable podium atop the US models ranking this month with the Ford F-Series at 48,795 sales, the Chevrolet Silverado at 36,832 and the Toyota Camry at 30,185 units, dominating again in August as well as in the year-to-date ranking.
The Nissan Altima is up 2 spots to #4 with 23,016 sales and is now also #4 year-to-date at 176,198 units, passing the Toyota Corolla only 14th this month. The Chevrolet Cruze stays very solid in 5th position with 21,807 sales, its 5th month in a row at over 20,000 units. It is now #6 year-to-date at 169,427, ahead of the Ford Fusion. Note the excellent hold of the Hyundai Sonata at #7 and #4 passenger car in the US.
The Kia Sorento breaks into the US Top 20 for the first time in the nameplate’s 9-year lifetime at #18, and breaks its monthly volume record for the 2nd consecutive month at 13,573 sales, up 50% year-on-year. Kia’s year-to-date sales are up an impressive 39% on 2010 and on pace to beat its previous best-ever annual sales total as early as September this year!
The Chrysler 200 makes its very first appearance in the US Top 30 at #27 with 10,861 sales, the new generation Nissan Versa delivers an excellent start and leads its category, up 23 spots on July to #39 at 8,566 units, and the Fiat 500 enters the US Top 100 for the first time at #100 with 3,106 sales.
The Nissan Leaf continues to lead the all-electric battle, up 46% on July at 1,362 units compared to the 302 sales of the Chevrolet Volt, up 142%. First sales of the Chevrolet Sonic this month at 280 units.
